Reforming the agriculture sector for sustainability will help 4 million poor farm households turn around and reduce the government's fiscal burden, Mr Prapat told the Bangkok Post. Integrated farming is an agricultural system that involves several simultaneous activities, such as the production of several crops and livestock, as opposed to the mono-crop approach. The ministry has never believed in organic farming as it conflicts with its policy, so agricultural reforms cannot make any progress, he said. Integrated farming can help mitigate risks farmers face from relying on only one type of crop, he said. Countries that can strengthen SMEs to be the backbone of economic growth always begin in the agricultural sector before expanding to other sectors, he said.
